Thankful Game

1. Sit in a circle and start a rhythm by first clapping hands against lap; second, clapping hands together; and third, snapping twice.
2. Pick a letter from the alphabet and announce it to the group.
3. First person starts on the first beat (saying a word on each beat:) “Thanks for _______.”Fill in the blank with any blessing you can think of that starts with the chosen letter.
4. The next person must not skip a beat. They must start on the lap clap and say “thanks for ____” choosing a different blessing that starts with the chosen letter.
5. If someone skips a beat (doesn’t come in on the right beat), repeats a blessing that’s already been stated, or can’t think of anything in time, s/he is out of the game.
6. When someone gets out, choose a new letter of the alphabet.

Gratitude Game

1. Tell everyone to think of an original blessing that they are especially grateful for. Have them write it down.
2. After everyone has written their blessing down, pull out the dry erase board (or a large pad of paper) and take turns having each person draw their blessing. Everyone else must guess what the drawing depicts. (It’s like Pictionary).
3. Make sure you don’t tell them in the beginning that they’ll be drawing, because that will influence what they write down

*You may wish to have small children draw their picture ahead of time.
*You may wish to use a timer and see who’s picture gets identified the
quickest.

2. Ensign — November 1998 Conference issue, Gratitude (Elder Watts), p. 83
3. We Believe by Rulon T. Burton; This book is a lot like Mormon Doctrine in that it is alphabetized according to topic. I really like it because it includes quotes (from general authorities) as well as scriptural quotes pertaining to the topic.
