Family Manger
Sent by Verna HebertWhen my daughter and son were little we had a family tradition that I believe is worth mentioning. My kids are only a year apart. We set up a "manager" of sorts, sometimes being only an empty box. I cut up brown yarn into strips to act as the "hay" for the baby. Each day the children were to earn strips by doing good deeds. Doing something without being reminded earned them two strips of hay which they then would lay in the manger.(Brushing their teeth without being reminded, for example) The kids would compete with each other to out do the other. On Christmas Eve they would then each take a side and lift Baby Jesus (one of my daughter's dolls) into a nice, very soft bed they had earned for him. On Christmas morning there was Baby Jesus in front center of the tree and the presents!!

Nativity Play

When I was growing up every Christmas eve the children would put on a reenactment of Mary and Joseph's trip, visit to Bethlehem and birth of Christ, shepherds, wise men and all. It was a wonderful tradition that is now being carried on by our children.
